Part of FOGGING AROUND NIGHTLINE

EAERES

doom kraut noise polyphonie

NIGHTLINE, Friday night, 5. Sept, 00:30, STWST Saal

EAERES is the soundtrack to a dark indictment of relentless domination. EAERES sounds harsh, vehemently impetuous. The sound embodies the struggle of a crushed existence to dismantle a monolith. The restless being, trapped in the matrix, seeks a way out of this centrifuge of power, which repeatedly slows down for a brief moment before breaking out again and mutating into an ominous whirring sound.

The centrifuge resembles a labyrinth of unequal conditions, the beginning of which, however, seems to run in orderly lanes. The drums and distorted bass set the lines, shortly followed by the noise of the synth and the agonizing, guttural vocals, both of which carry the aesthetic of the sound. The structured and almost krautrock-like song parts of the newly formed doom metal band EAERES soon fall apart and dissolve into an electrifying noise feast that unfolds into disharmonious dimensions. This is followed by a polyphonic mantra that eludes any rhythm, building up and sounding like a mechanical whip. The desperate creature raises its voice in loud protest, accompanied by the beats, wanting to push time forward to find a redeeming way out. But time cannot be shaken off, neither the impending nor the past. In a cathartic invocation of spirits, the figure calls upon its ancestors, the energy is released and flows into shimmering, almost conciliatory surfaces.

EAERES are (named in reverse alphabetical order): Ursula Winterauer (Gischt), Karolina Preuschl, Leon Leder (Asfast), and Katrin Euller (Rent). Known for their solo projects (Rent, Asfast, Karolina Preuschl, Gischt) in the Viennese experimental electronic scene, Katrin Euller, Leon Leder, Karolina Preuschl, and Ursula Winterauer have been active for several years and have founded a band format whose power is nourished by their different influences and independent approaches.
